When you go about choosing the right type of kiwifruit, you would come across two main types – the golden and the green types. The type of the fruit tells about the color of the inner pulp. The golden variety is tropical sweet and the green type is sweet but tangy.

The gold type has a little more amount of fructose and carbohydrates, which means that its glycemic index is lower than that of the green kiwi. The blood sugar controlling property of dried kiwi originates in the compound inositol found in the fruit. This component increases insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for diabetes patients.

Kiwi is also called Chinese gooseberry and it is one of those fruits that falls into the category of complete food. Thus, while helping control diabetes, the fruit can also replenish all the nutrient requirements in your body. This “natural food” contains all the elements that your body requires. It has higher percentage of potassium, while being low on sodium.

The percentage of vitamin C in kiwi is almost double than what is found in orange. In addition, it is also rich in fiber, vitamin A and E, antioxidants, zinc and magnesium. In addition to helping with diabetes, it has also been reported to be effective in improving skin problems, reducing cholesterol and eye health.
